Regional Health Survey

Kahnawake Participates in the First Nations Regional Health Survey

With the support of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake, our community will be participating in the First Nations Regional Health Survey. The project will take place through March 2016.

The First Nations Regional Health Survey objectives are:

  • to attain an accurate depiction of the Kahnawake’s health condition and determining factors;
  • to support the future development of tools for follow up of the community’s health condition and determining factors to improve the well-being of our community;
  • to support Kahnawake’s decision makers in tailoring programs and decisions based on the communities needs.

The First Nations Regional Health Survey will be funded by the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission. All surveyors will be Kahnawa’kehró:non and will carry identification cards throughout the project.

The information that is collected from Kahnawake will be incorporated into the larger Health Survey. Onkwata’karitáhtshera would like to assure the people of Kahnawake that the community will have ownership of all the data pertaining to Kahnawake. This will include the analysis of our communities’ health condition and determining factors.

In order for the survey to accurately portray the communities health it has been determined that the survey sample needs to be no less than 616 people. Onkwata’karitáhtshera is asking for the communities co-operation throughout this project.
