About Us
Health and Safety is an organizational committee comprised of management and employee representatives working in a cooperative spirit to identify, resolve and eliminate dangers to the health, safety and well-being of workers. We are dedicated to ensuring a workplace that prioritizes the physical, mental, psychological, and spiritual well-being of all employees.
In addition to the committee, KSCS also employs a Health & Safety Officer who plays a key role in the development and implementation of policies, programs, training strategies and ensuring safe work practices. Working hand-in-hand with the committee, they ensure KSCS is applying appropriate, consistent, and comprehensive response to workplace health and safety.
We want to instil an environment where everyone feels safe and appreciated particularly in difficult times. We also want staff to become equal partners in the continual improvement and implementation to health and safety protocols in the workplace. Health and safety is everyone’s concern, and we all have a role to play.
Our mission is to provide resources, guidance, and proactive measures that foster a culture of safety and wellness across the organization.
What We Do
Health and Safety serves as a vital resource for KSCS employees, offering:
General support for staff with health and safety concerns.
Identify situations that may be unhealthy or unsafe for workers.
Inform management on necessary changes in the workplace, including significant proposed changes to equipment, or the work processes that will improve the health & safety of workers.
Provide direction & timelines to management for the improvement of the occupational health and safety of workers and compliance with regulations.
Implement effective systems for responding to unhealthy/unsafe situations.
Ensure that incidents are investigated, and regular inspections are carried out.
Ensure protocols & procedures are implemented & performed in accordance with health & safety standards.
Coordination of Emergency Preparedness initiatives, including drills and response planning.
Routine safety inspections of all KSCS facilities to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
Education and training to promote safe practices and awareness.
Collaboration with key community organizations, including:
- The local fire department, to ensure facilities meet fire safety standards and emergency readiness.
- Peacekeepers, to maintain security and compliance with safety regulations.
- Other relevant groups, as needed, to strengthen the overall safety infrastructure of KSCS.
These efforts ensure that all employees feel secure and empowered to focus on their professional and personal growth.
Collaboration with Other Services
Health and Safety works closely with every KSCS department and facility to address potential concerns and implement effective solutions. By fostering strong internal partnerships, the department ensures a consistent approach to safety across the organization.
When needed, Health and Safety also liaises with external resources to maintain compliance with the latest workplace safety standards and regulations.
