In-Person Information Kiosk on First Nations Child and Family Services Settlement Agreement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kahnawà:ke - Onerahtokó:wa / May 2, 2025)

Louise Mayo, Kahnawà:ke’s First Nations Child and Family Services Liaison Officer, will appear on K103 Radio on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, during the first half of the program to provide an update on the First Nations Child and Family Services Settlement Agreement, with a focus on two key class actions.

The Federal Court has approved a $23 billion settlement agreement—the largest in Canadian history—for First Nations children and families who experienced discrimination due to chronic underfunding of on-reserve foster care and other family services.

The first Claims Period opened on March 10, 2025. Eligible individuals under the Removed Child Class and the Removed Child Family Class may now submit claims for compensation.

Following the radio segment, Louise Mayo will host an in-person Information Kiosk to answer questions and provide support to those seeking assistance with their claims.

Date: Thursday, May 8, 2025
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Location: Post Office / Tewatohnhi’saktha Lobby
