Public Service Announcement - Overdose Alert
The Direction de santé publique de Montréal has reported four recent overdoses linked to crack-cocaine use in the Montreal area. Testing confirmed the presence of Carfentanyl, a highly potent opioid not typically found in stimulants like crack.
All four individuals experienced serious symptoms, including drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, and loss of consciousness. Each case was reversed with the administration of
Naloxone.
Naloxone should be administered if a person is:
- Not breathing, breathing irregularly, or making snoring/gurgling sounds
- Unresponsive to noise or pain
- Showing signs such as blue lips or fingertips (cyanosis) or pinpoint pupils (myosis)
If you suspect an overdose:
- Call 911 or, if in Kahnawà:ke, contact the Peacekeepers at 450-632-6505
- Administer Naloxone, if available
- Stay with the person until help arrives
This alert highlights the ongoing risk of contamination in the illicit drug supply and the critical importance of overdose prevention and rapid intervention.
