About Us

The Environmental Health Services (EHS) program of K.S.C.S is committed to promoting health, safety, and well-being within our community. Our Environmental Health Officer (EHO), certified by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI), is responsible for overseeing inspections, testing, and sampling. 

Our dedicated team works tirelessly to identify potential health hazards and provide comprehensive support and recommendations to ensure safe living conditions for all community members.

What We Offer

Food Safety Inspection

EHS conducts thorough public health inspections of public and community food service facilities. Our services encompass a wide range of food safety areas.

  • Guidelines for special events
  • Guidance for opening food establishments
  • Requirements for mobile food premises
  • Instructions for making disinfecting solutions
  •  Food safety inspections for all community food premises

Immediate Response

All food establishment complaints are treated with the utmost urgency and care.

Water Quality Testing

Ensuring access to safe drinking water is a top priority for EHS. Our team conducts regular sampling of both centralized and well water systems in the community. All recreational water testing is conducted starting in the spring until the fall season of each year.

  • E. coli & Total Coliform drinking water testing (wells)
  • Recreational water quality results
  • Homeowner well water quality results
  • Information on disinfecting wells
  • Bi-annual well water testing
  • Weekly centralized water testing
  • Full physiochemical markup every 5 years
  • Lead & Copper Drinking Water Testing
  • Monthly recreational water testing (Kahnawake & Tioweró:ton)

Air Quality Testing

EHS plays a critical role in assessing indoor air quality conditions to identify and mitigate health and safety hazards. Our team conducts inspections of public buildings and residences (upon request) in the community.

Communicable Disease Control

Our commitment to public health includes robust monitoring and control of communicable diseases. EHS engages in surveillance activities to identify potential outbreaks and prevent the spread of illness. We offer educational resources, including an infographic on Lyme disease and its associated risks, to raise awareness about prevention strategies. 

Collaboration and Support 

EHS works collaboratively with various departments, particularly Social Services, to address health and safety concerns in housing. We are actively involved in youth protection cases, ensuring that living conditions meet health standards. Furthermore, our team supports elders and their case workers, fostering a holistic approach to home and community care.
