Traditional Services primarily provides Kahnawa’kehró:non access to individual counselling or group healing by utilizing Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten, or "our ways." Our services are located at the Family Wellness Centre.

About Us

Our team works to improve our clients’ lives and support them through life, whether they need guidance, assistance with grief, or help with impacts from residential school and intergenerational trauma.

What We Offer

Our team provides support programs dependent on the community’s needs and where they are in their lives. Currently, we offer five key programs and resources that Kahnawa’kehró:non can access. We also have a network of resources and will refer clients to other knowledge keepers when necessary.

Individual Traditional Support Counselling

Our caring and compassionate team of counsellors provides holistic support rooted in Haudenosaunee teachings and cultural traditions. Through individual or group support, we guide individuals on their healing journey, fostering a deeper connection to their spirit. By drawing on the knowledge of Haudenosaunee ways and other cultural practices, we help clients improve their strength, balance, and personal well-being.

Á:se sasatónhnhet – Grief Group

Experiencing the loss of a loved one is one of life’s greatest challenges, and navigating grief can be overwhelming and heartbreaking. Our grief group is designed to provide comfort and guidance for those impacted by loss. Through a compassionate blend of traditional approaches and modern methodologies, we offer a safe space to process the deep emotions of grief. Our team integrates spirituality, Haudenosaunee teachings, and sacred ceremonies to support healing and help individuals find understanding in the grieving process.

Ionatenenhrarò:ron – Women’s Support Circle

The Women’s Support Group is a safe and supportive space for women to come together and embrace their healing journey. Rooted in the principles of Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten, the group encourages participants to share their experiences, learn from one another, and engage in cultural teachings. By fostering connection and understanding, we help women practice their healing progress in a nurturing environment where women can draw strength and knowledge from our traditional ways.

Traditional Youth Programming

Traditional Youth programming is offered to all Kahnawà:ke youth, including children in foster care and young adults transitioning out of care. Within a supportive environment, we provide traditional teachings and culturally based practical skills to help ground our young people in Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten. Our aim is to provide a healthy setting where youth can gather, learn, and develop a strong cultural identity. Traditional youth programming can be delivered in the form of small group sessions, drop-in workshops and closed group workshops.

Indian Residential Schools Health Support

The Indian Residential Schools Health Support Worker provides emotional and cultural support to individuals and families affected by intergenerational trauma caused by Residential and Day Schools. If you are a survivor of Residential or Day Schools, or if your family has been impacted, support is available. This includes traditional counselling, teachings and trauma-informed care tailored to your needs.

This worker also provides assistance upon request from Indigenous Services Canada, offering support at events such as the National Gathering on Unmarked Graves or flag-raising ceremonies honouring survivors.

Collaboration and Support

Traditional Services works closely with numerous KSCS teams including psychological services, addictions response services, and Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten, along with community organizations and schools.

We ensure close relationships and partnership are in place to provide appropriate support to our community.

Commitment to the Community

Traditional Services is committed to delivering programs and services that reflect the unique needs and values of our community. When gaps in traditional services arise, we actively seek solutions to address them and meet the evolving demands of those we serve. By fostering collaboration and listening to the community, we aim to create a stronger, more connected community.
