The primary responsibility of the Tsi Ionteksa’tanónhnha’ – Foster Care program is to recruit safe, stable and loving parents to foster children who are at risk in their current environment. Our services are located at the Family Services Building.

About Us

When possible, we strive to keep children within the community to maintain a sense of connection and stability. However, we recognize that alternative placements may sometimes be necessary.

Foster homes are needed for various situations, including emergency placements, short-term care, and long-term support. To ensure every child receives the care they deserve, we offer comprehensive training and ongoing support to equip foster parents with the necessary skills and resources. Training is available as well for children with special needs, to ensure all children will have a safe environment.

What We Offer

We prioritize kinship care, where children are placed in the care of immediate family members. As a foster parent, you will receive training, and have access to workers for assistance, questions or concerns 24 hours a day. Foster parents also have access to various resources and support to ensure care for the child.

Foster Parent & Child Support

  • Resources to foster parents & children
  • Individual support to foster parents
  • Monthly workshops for foster parents with childcare services for the kids
  • Support for youth approaching age of majority

Case Aide Program

The Case Aide Program was developed to facilitate supervised visits between children and their biological parents. Case aides provide transportation services, ensuring that youth can safely attend scheduled family visits in a supportive environment.

Financial Assistance

Foster parents receive financial support in accordance with First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) guidelines. Financial assistance is designed to cover essential expenses related to the child’s care, ensuring that every child’s needs are met while in a foster home.

Collaboration and Support

Post Majority Support Services works closely with Youth Protection Services and the Foster Care program to ensure a seamless transition for youth exiting care. Our partnerships extend to local organizations, including housing agencies, employers, and educational institutions, to provide well-rounded support for our clients.

In addition, we collaborate with community leaders and cultural organizations to ensure that youth maintain a strong connection to their heritage. Through these collaborative efforts, we aim to provide holistic and sustainable support for all those we serve.

Commitment to the Community

We are committed to keeping children in care within the community of Kahnawà:ke—whenever possible, within the care of family members. We believe that maintaining a child’s connection to their culture and relatives plays a vital role in their development and overall well-being.

Our priority is to ensure that children are placed in homes where they feel supported, valued, and secure. To achieve this, we actively recruit, and train foster parents who share our dedication to providing nurturing environments that promote a child’s emotional, physical, and cultural well-being.

By working together as a community, we can provide children in care with the stability, love, and support they need to thrive.
