KAHNAWÀ:KE LANGUAGE  AND  CULTURE  NETWORK

A Grassroots Community Group Working on Language & Culture Revitalization

The Tewahará:tat Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten/Language and Culture Network was established in May 2017 as a means to bring key people together who work in the field and/or share the same interest and passion of language and culture revitalization.  The intent is to discuss ideas and identify a strategic plan for language and cultural initiatives where we can collaboratively plan for future action that fosters the vision of Kanien’kéha tánon’ Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten in Kahnawà:ke.

With the recent Kahnawà:ke Collective Impact gatherings that identified language and culture as outmost importance for a healthy Kahnawà:ke, it is an opportune time to come together on such an important part of what is ultimately who we are as Kanien’kehá:ka people.

The initial meeting was held on Onerahtohkó:wa/May 17th, 2017, at the Tewatonhnhi’sáktha and have since been occurring monthly at rotating locations within the community.

Participation to-date has been from a number of individuals who share the same interest or who are working in some capacity of language and culture within the community including but not limited to:

  • Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten Tsitewaháhara’n
  • Step by Step  Center
