KSCS Temporarily Suspends Visitation at TBEL and ALS

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

KSCS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDS VISITATION AT TBEL AND ALS

(Kahnawake – December 22, 2021) Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) wishes to inform the community that effective immediately, visitation at the Turtle Bay Elders Lodge (TBEL) and KSCS Assisted Living Services (ALS) has been temporarily suspended.

Before this current suspension of visitation, visitors were required to provide proof of vaccinations and proof of a negative rapid test to be granted a visit with their loved one. However, with Kahnawà:ke once again entering into a state of emergency and many more measures being announced throughout the community, the visitation requirements cannot be safely and systematically implemented at our facilities.

No date has been identified as to when visitation may resume. However, KSCS Executive Director Derek Montour stated that, “We will be monitoring the situation closely, and will resume visitation at our long-term residences when we are certain that it can be done in a safe manner.” Residents at the facilities may still leave as desired, while recognizing the high level of risk and to apply strict public health measures for themselves. We wish to respect their right to autonomy as much and as safely possible.
