PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kahnawake – August 23, 2014, since the second community meeting held on July 16, 2014 to determining the future direction of community drama programming, Kahnawake Shakotiia'takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) has had two meetings with the Turtle Island Theatre Volunteer Fundraising Committee (TITVFC). These meetings have allowed for the re-building of a working relationship between both parties and are developing into a memorandum of understanding.

KSCS recognizes the efforts and hard work of the Turtle Island Theatre Company in becoming a formally recognized community organization in Kahnawake and wish them good luck in these aspirations.

KSCS believes that the arts are essential in self development and are a good approach to addressing the community health needs. KSCS and the TITVFC are working together towards re-establishing Youth Drama in Kahnawake.

KSCS has offered to enter into a services contract with TITVFC to provide programming to Kahnawakehró:non youth that will result in a Christmas show for this year.

Both parties are working together to prepare for the reopening of the Kateri Hall and the eventual restarting of performing arts in Kahnawake.
